VIDEO: UH, Community Salute Dr. Cadman
Date: October 30, 2009

APPLAUSE: Cadman salute draws scores of Hawai'i's leaders and citizens
Dr. Edwin Cadman's service to Hawaii and the medical school was honored in a well-attended celebration at JABSOM. The community and the JABSOM 'Ohana contributed to establish an endowed professorship, which will be a lasting legacy for Dr. Cadman, who stepped down as Dean in 2005 for health reasons. *CLICK HERE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CADMAN FUND Or click FULL STORY for more information and a VIDEO from the ceremony.

Dr. Edwin Cadman's service to the University of Hawai‘i, its medical school, and the community was acknowledged and celebrated in an event at JABSOM Kaka'ako on October 29. Dr. Cadman, former Dean, is retiring, after service to the school since 1999.
In 2005, Dr. Cadman unexpectedly stepped down as dean of the John A. Burns School of Medicine, after learning that he suffers from Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), a rare degenerative condition that robs those it strikes of the ability to articulate thoughts in speech or writing. There is no cure for PPA.

JABSOM hopes the professorship in Dr. Cadman's honor will also heighten the stature of the medical school as a recognized center for research in neurodegenerative diseases, like PPA.

Attorney Jay Fidell of ThinkTech Hawai'i established the fund for Dr. Cadman in 2005, to salute Dr. Cadman's contriubtion to the development of a biosciences industry in Hawai'i. The Friends of the Medical School and other generous donors seeded the endowment with additional gifts.
